Writing for the public workshop

Are your pitches to The Conversation rejected? Do you know why the public should care about your research? Do you know who your publics are? What non-academic publications do you read? Learn a few slick tricks on how to:

  • Pitch to The Conversation
  • Pitch to The Canberra Times
  • Identify appropriate publication venues
  • Write for a public audience
  • Extend your output across more than one publication venue

This hands-on workshop will address the above. The aim of this session is to identify a venue for each participant to pitch to and to help in constructing the best pitch they can put forward.
To attend you need to have a pitch in mind and an attitude to engage constructively with your peers.

The workshop will be run by Professor Kylie Message-Jones and Dr Kim Huynh who, between them, have decades of public engagement expertise across academic, political, cultural and community sectors.

Open to everyone but you must register in advance. Send us an email at hrc@anu.edu.au

(This session replaces our HRC Write on Site session for one week only)
